Day 36: The Furthest South I've Ever Been
I'm so far south that it's cold.
Unfortunately I won't be able to include any music with this post because I'm posting this from my phone. But I think you'll survive.
As I write this I am sitting on the floor in the Melbourne airport. That's right, Melbourne. No I didn't go to the wrong Australian city, I'm just on a layover. My flight to Sydney leaves in a few hours.
It is very early morning here in Melbourne, by that I mean 2am. It is 40 degrees outside. I haven't felt that temperature since April. It's going to warm up when the sun comes out, but still. Even the nights haven't been that cold for a while.
Of course, everything is closed here at the Melbourne airport, and nothing opens unity 6am, which is when my flight leaves. Everything is closed except for one place. McDonalds. Do I dare break the embargo my body has had with McDonalds for years? Unfortunately for me, the Tokyo airport had no food, and since there were only snacks on the flight here, I had no choice. I couldn't go another five hours without food. I was forced to cave in.
I am not too pleased with the events that took place at the Melbourne airport, but at least I'm not hungry.
Let's talk about something else.
The flight from Tokyo was ten hours long. It was brutal at times, but thankfully I had some good movies to watch. I saw "Midnight Special" which is a very good sci-fi thriller that I highly recommend. It does a great job of throwing you into the middle of the action and taking its time to explain things. Which I love.
I also watched "How To Be Single," which is kinda a girls movie, but I don't think gender mattes when it comes to a good movie. And that's exactly what I thought it was. I think it did a great job exploring the modern relationship and harping on what I think is an important thing for everyone to realize. Stop being in love with the idea of being in love, and learn to be comfortable being alone, before you decide to be with someone else. It may seem weird that I'm talking so much about a movie, but it relates a lot to what I'm doing on this trip, so it struck home.
Maybe I'm a little crazy from the ten hour flight and being forced to eat McDonalds. The world may never know.
I can check in for my flight in about half an hour so I'll end today's post here. Tomorrow I finally reach Sydney. I'm very much looking forward to all the Finding Nemo references I can make.
Thanks for reading and here's to tomorrow.
