Day 3: Burn it Down

Day 3: Burn it Down

Tonight, Nora tried to burn Dublin down.

Breakfast began as innocently as possible, with a bowl of Rice Krispies. But within two hours I held a handful of barley at Dublin's iconic Guiness brewery.

It rained on and off into the afternoon, just like every other day in Dublin so far. Dark clouds would replace the sunny blue skies only to disappear as quickly as they arrived.

Dublin's Guiness Storehouse was at the top of many Things-To-Do-In-Dublin lists. Despite that I don't partake in the consumption of alcohol, I was still interested to see what it was all about.

I was amazed but the amount of care and craftsmanship that went into making Guiness. Particularly when I became an expert myself.

Finally proof of what I've known all a long.

Finally proof of what I've known all a long.

Unfortunately we spent so much time becoming master brewers that the Dublin castle closed before we could get to it. I'll make up lost castle time at some point.

We did have time to watch Ireland play in the Euro vs Sweden. Being in a bar surrounded by diehard Ireland fans was a whole new experience for me. I'll never forget the excitement of that bar when Ireland took the lead.

After dinner we wandered around searching for the best live music we could find. And we found it. Paul Tully on guitar (no relation to the Game of Thrones family, I think) and a friend on the accordion. They played for three hours mixing in covers of popular songs and otherwise just jamming out together.

Our last night in Dublin ended with one final trip to Iskanders, the fantastic shawarma restaurant we visited at the end of every night when we were ready to go home, but still wanted something to eat.

We will never forget you Iskanders.

We will never forget you Iskanders.

We still have tomorrow morning Dublin, but by the afternoon we will be gone, and you will be missed. But I will return someday, I need more Dublin in my life than just this short few days.

Tomorrow we are off to Galway on the opposite side of the island. There we will see the Cliffs of Moher and Roundstone, where our family comes from.

Thanks for reading, and I'll see you tomorrow.

OH YEAH.

Nora did try to burn the city down. While at the bar she grabbed a candle from the other table and "accidentally" set one of our receipts on fire. I know the truth, and I'm watching out for myself in Galway. If I don't write tomorrow, send help.
